Fuel ethanol production in the United States experienced a modest increase for the week ending May 31, as per data released by the U.S. Energy Information Administration on June 5. The production averaged 1.072 million barrels per day, marking a slight uptick of 4,000 barrels per day compared to the previous week’s 1.068 million barrels per day. In comparison to the corresponding week last year, production surged by 36,000 barrels per day.
Concurrently, fuel ethanol stocks saw a marginal decline, dropping nearly 1% to 23.052 million barrels for the week ending May 31. This reflects a decrease of 155,000 barrels compared to the preceding week’s 23.207 million barrels. However, when juxtaposed with the equivalent period last year, stocks exhibited an increase of 104,000 barrels.
Despite the overall production increase, exports witnessed a significant downturn. Exports averaged 123,000 barrels per day, indicating a notable decrease of 89,000 barrels per day from the previous week’s 212,000 barrels per day. However, in comparison to the same week of the previous year, ethanol exports recorded an uptick of 26,000 barrels per day.
It’s noteworthy that no fuel ethanol imports were reported for the week ending May 31, underscoring the nation’s reliance on domestic production and consumption.
