The Haewoori offshore wind project, situated off the coast of Ulsan, South Korea, has successfully concluded its Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) consultation with key governmental bodies, including the Ministry of Environment and Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy.

Developed by Copenhagen Offshore Partners (COP) on behalf of Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners through its CI V fund, the 1.5GW floating wind project marks a significant milestone in advancing sustainable energy initiatives in the region. Located approximately 80km off Ulsan, Haewoori Offshore Wind Co Ltd. has underscored its commitment to corporate social responsibility and sustainable development throughout the project’s lifecycle.

Jonathan Spink, COP Korea co-chief executive and chief executive of Haewoori Offshore Wind, highlighted the importance of the EIA consultation, stating, “The completion of the EIA consultation is meaningful as we focus on corporate social responsibility and sustainable development across our entire floating offshore wind portfolio in Ulsan. Haewoori Offshore Wind Co Ltd. is committed to making continuous efforts to closely follow what we have discussed with MOE and actively communicate with relevant agencies in case of unexpected impact during consultation as a responsible member of the local community.”

The rigorous EIA process involved comprehensive analysis of potential environmental impacts on both offshore and onshore ecosystems, encompassing marine and onshore environmental quality, noise pollution, and socioeconomic factors. Throughout the assessment, Haewoori Offshore Wind actively engaged with local governments and the public to incorporate feedback, ensuring that the project aligns with sustainable development goals and corporate social responsibility initiatives.

The completion of the EIA consultation marks a significant step forward for the Haewoori offshore wind project, signaling its commitment to environmental stewardship and responsible energy development in South Korea’s renewable energy landscape.
