Gas Prices Show Varied Trends Across Texas, National Average Slightly Up

by Yuki

The latest data from AAA Texas reveals a mixed picture for gas prices across the Lone Star State, with some metropolitan areas seeing decreases while others experience slight increases. As of the latest report, the statewide average for a gallon of gas stands at $3.13, only a cent higher compared to last week.

According to AAA Texas spokesperson Doug Shupe, drivers in El Paso are facing the highest average price at $3.24 per gallon, whereas those in Amarillo enjoy the lowest at $2.90 per gallon. These figures reflect localized variations amidst a national average of $3.52 per gallon, which rose by two cents over the past week.

Additionally, recent findings from the Energy Information Administration (EIA) highlight unexpected shifts in gasoline demand. The data shows a notable increase from 8.78 million barrels per day to 9.45 million barrels per day, accompanied by a decrease in total domestic gasoline stocks from 233 million barrels to 277.4 million barrels. Concurrently, gasoline production rose to 10.2 million barrels per day.

Despite these fluctuations, AAA Texas suggests that these changes are likely to maintain pump prices at relatively stable levels moving forward. Moreover, Shupe emphasized that while prices vary across Texas, they remain significantly lower compared to a year ago, offering savings for motorists gearing up for end-of-summer road trips.

“In Texas, gas price averages show a mixed trend across metro areas, yet across the board, prices are at least 10 cents per gallon cheaper than this time last year,” noted Doug Shupe. “This means Texans planning end-of-summer travels will spend less on fuel compared to last year’s expenses at this time.”

The data underscores the dynamic nature of gas pricing influenced by both local market conditions and broader national trends, impacting consumer spending and travel decisions as summer progresses.
