Haitham Al-Ghais, Secretary-General of the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC), described his recent visit to Iraq as highly productive, highlighting the country’s strong commitment to stabilizing the global oil market.
On Thursday, Al-Ghais reported a positive meeting with Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammad Al-Sudani. The Prime Minister reiterated Iraq’s unwavering support for OPEC and OPEC+ agreements, emphasizing the nation’s dedication to upholding its commitments to ensure global oil market stability.
“Iraq, as a key OPEC member, continues to play a crucial role in supporting our collective agreements,” Al-Ghais stated. He also met with Iraq’s Oil Minister Hayan Abdul-Ghani and other senior officials, praising their contributions to the oil sector and their collaborative efforts towards market stability.
OPEC confirmed in a statement that Al-Ghais’ visit to Iraq follows a similar trip to Kazakhstan. The discussions in both countries focused on the current state of the oil markets and reinforced the importance of maintaining efforts to stabilize them. Both Iraq and Kazakhstan have pledged to adhere fully to their agreed oil production levels, as stipulated in their respective agreements.
The visit underscores OPEC’s ongoing commitment to coordinating with member countries to support and stabilize the global oil market.
