Punjab Government Implements Fuel Price Hike and Ends Power Subsidy

by Yuki

Punjab’s Cabinet, under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, approved a rise in petrol and diesel prices by 61 paise and 92 paise per liter, respectively, on Thursday. This move signifies a notable shift in the state’s economic strategy.

Additionally, the Cabinet decided to discontinue a power subsidy program previously established by the Congress government, which offered reduced electricity rates for households with up to a 7 KW load. The decision comes as the state grapples with economic challenges, including the central government’s suspension of over Rs 10,000 crore in funds to Punjab. These actions reflect the government’s approach to address financial pressures and stabilize the state’s economy.
