The spokesperson for the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL), Olufemi Soneye, stated on Tuesday that recent reports regarding an increase in the pump price of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), commonly known as petrol, did not originate from his office.
This response comes in light of media claims that NNPCL has raised the pump price at its retail outlets, increasing the cost in Lagos from N998 per litre to N1,025, and in Abuja from N1,030 per litre to N1,060.
Soneye firmly denied any knowledge of a price increase, asserting, “There is no increase in gasoline price that I am aware of.”
Chinedu Ukadike, spokesperson for the Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN), echoed Soneye’s sentiments, indicating that the ex-depot price from NNPCL remains unchanged.
“For independent marketers, we have not experienced a fresh price hike as I am speaking with you. NNPCL still sells to us at the same price,” Ukadike noted, specifying that the current price in Port Harcourt is N1,040 per litre, while prices in Abuja and Lagos hover around N990 per litre.
