Dangote Refinery has officially stated that it has not received authorization from the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) to distribute Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) to independent oil marketers. This clarification follows assertions from the Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN) regarding difficulties in sourcing petrol from the refinery.
In a recent statement, Anthony Chiejina, the Group Chief Branding and Communications Officer at Dangote, addressed concerns raised by IPMAN President Abubakar Garima. Garima highlighted that independent marketers are unable to load fuel, despite owing ₦40 billion in outstanding payments to NNPCL. His comments came after Aliko Dangote indicated that marketers have not been utilizing the refinery, which possesses a sufficient fuel supply.
Chiejina emphasized that Dangote Refinery has not received any direct payments from IPMAN, stating, “To suggest IPMAN members are experiencing difficulties loading from our refinery is misleading since we currently have no direct dealings with them.” He further clarified that IPMAN’s payments are made to NNPCL and that the refinery has yet to receive authorization from NNPCL to release PMS to IPMAN.
Additionally, Chiejina highlighted the refinery’s capacity to meet Nigeria’s fuel demands, with the ability to load up to 2,900 trucks daily and distribute products by sea. He encouraged IPMAN members to register and make payments directly to Dangote for more streamlined access to fuel supplies.
Chiejina also cautioned stakeholders against public speculation, warning that unverified claims could undermine government economic initiatives under President Bola Tinubu. He called for responsible business practices to foster national progress.
