COMAC Rebrands to Mark New Era in Ghana’s Petroleum Sector

by Yuki

The Association of Oil Marketing Companies (AOMC) has officially rebranded as the Chamber of Oil Marketing Companies (COMAC), signaling a bold new phase in Ghana’s downstream petroleum sector. This strategic rebranding aims to enhance the organization’s visibility, strengthen its advocacy efforts, and solidify its position as a leading force in the industry.

With a rich history spanning over two decades, COMAC has played a pivotal role in shaping policies and operational practices within the petroleum sector. Notable achievements include collaborating with the National Petroleum Authority (NPA) and the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) on initiatives like price deregulation, anti-smuggling legislation, and tax system reforms. The rebranding decision reflects the Chamber’s commitment to further elevating its impact and influence in Ghana’s evolving energy landscape.

Dr. Riverson Oppong, CEO of COMAC, addressed stakeholders at the rebranding event held at the Alisa Hotel in Accra, emphasizing that the change was not merely cosmetic. “As we step into a new era as COMAC, I want to assure you that we remain steadfast in our commitment to the vision and mission you have so diligently crafted,” he said. “Our roots will never be forgotten; instead, they will guide us forward into a future of continued growth and excellence.”

Dr. Oppong also highlighted the significance of the word “Chamber,” which embodies professionalism, unity, and credibility—qualities essential to the organization’s mission of driving Ghana’s future energy needs while empowering its people.

In a speech delivered on his behalf, Herbert Krapa, the Minister of State for Energy, praised the Chamber’s long-standing commitment to sustainable growth and its crucial role in shaping the downstream petroleum industry. Krapa further encouraged COMAC to continue its innovative efforts and resilience, particularly in overcoming challenges such as the global supply chain disruptions experienced during the COVID-19 pandemic.

William Tewiah, Board Chairman of COMAC, reinforced the rebranding as a critical step forward in the sector’s evolution. “This is not just a transformation of identity, but a call to action for all industry players to embrace innovation, collaboration, and environmental responsibility,” he said. Tewiah also invited all stakeholders to join the Chamber in its mission to create a more sustainable future for Ghana’s energy sector.

The event featured goodwill messages from industry stakeholders, including representatives from the National Petroleum Authority (NPA) and the Chamber of Petroleum Consumers, who commended the rebranding for fostering greater collaboration and addressing key industry challenges.

The Significance of COMAC’s New Logo: A Symbol of Progress

The unveiling of COMAC’s new logo marked the climax of the evening. The logo features a dynamic oil droplet infused with vibrant red, green, and yellow colors, symbolizing the organization’s core values and vision for the future.

The red in the logo represents energy, power, and urgency—capturing the dynamic nature of the petroleum sector. The green reflects sustainability and the Chamber’s dedication to environmental responsibility, while the yellow signifies optimism, growth, and the economic significance of the industry.

The highlight of the evening also included a cake-cutting ceremony, led by the CEO and Board Members, symbolizing unity and the beginning of a promising new chapter for COMAC. Additionally, the event featured an awards ceremony recognizing key contributors to the industry, as well as a preview of the “Downstream Dialogue”—an innovative program designed to foster meaningful discussions among industry stakeholders.

As COMAC embarks on this exciting journey, its rebranding stands as a testament to its ongoing commitment to leadership, innovation, and sustainable development in Ghana’s downstream petroleum industry.
